Choose Your Own Adventure

New Unit. What dis?

This Production Folio unit is designed to unleash your creativity and provide you with a multitude of opportunities to develop and hone your skills as a Media student.

The requirement is simple! Produce a folio of work that includes:
  • a selection of tasks that total a minimum of 50 points
  • at least 3 different forms
  • one group task (as part of the overall 5 tasks)
See bottom of this page for due dates and submission requirements.

The grids below outline the options that are available for you to choose from, as well as their point allocations and the recommended maximum timeframe needed to complete them. The rest of this website is dedicated to providing greater detail about each task: explanations, tutorials and examples.

Documentation

Each task will also require the completion of some basic documentation, which can be found in a blue box like this one on each task page.

All of the documentation should be saved in an appropriate folder in your OneDrive folder or written into your folio.

You may either print out the worksheets and paste/save them into your folio/OneDrive folder, or use them as a reference to write directly into your folio.

Remember that the best folios will be put on display at a special Media exhibition as part of the Bialik Arts Festival in early Term 3, so label each task clearly and put some effort into making your pages look good!

Research

Keep in mind that the tutorials and examples in this website are just to get you started - you should absolutely do your own research for greater inspiration, and feel free to find your own tutorials. Also, many tutorials will provide you with stock footage so that you can replicate exactly what is shown in that tutorial. You may find it useful to use this while you a learning a technique, and THEN go back and redo the process with your own original images or footage.

Production Timeline

Before you can begin working on your chosen tasks you will need to develop a timeline to ensure that you are able to complete all tasks by the submission date. This timeline will also be your first Checkpoint for the unit.

Here is a sample of how a completed timeline should look with all of the relevant detail using one of the templates from the right: Download Sample Timeline

When creating your timeline, be as a specific as possible. For example, if you were going to do the Lens Ball task, don't just block out one week to complete it. Instead, specify every single step that will be required to complete that task during the week and allocate a reasonable amount of time for each one. So, for example, you could allocate 1 hour to watching tutorials and completing the planning documentation, then 1-2 hours per day over two days to take photographs and sort through them, then 2 hours to print and mount the final three images.
Here are two templates that you could use, or you are welcome to create your own timeline.
