FOOD MAGAZINE COVER

Category: Individual
Value: 10 Points
Time: 2 weeks
YOUR TASK
Create one front cover for a food magazine of your choice (either an existing one or make up your own). All photographs of food included in the cover must be original (taken by you).

EXTENSION OPTION
Research the food styling hacks used in some photography and advertising to make food look more appealing (e.g. spraying vegetables with hairspray or oil to make them look shiny and fresh). Use these hacks to enhance the appearance of food in your photographs. Make sure you keep a record of your hacks - take photos of your process and include these in your visual diary along with annotations that explain what you are doing. That way everyone will know about all the extra work that you have done to create amazing photos!

What are the Conventions of a Food Magazine Cover?
All magazine covers, whether they are food magazines or not, typically employ the same conventions such as mastheads, puff and skylines. However, there are also some conventions that are specific to food magazines.

For example, food magazines (obviously) feature pictures of food on their covers. Most food magazines will only feature one meal/recipe, but some will also include smaller photos of other recipes that can be found inside the magazine and add text identifying which page each recipe can be found on. Some of the 'fancier' food magazines, such as Delicious or Donna Hay, use a minimalist aesthetic. Whereas 'everyday' food magazines, such as the ones you can get for free at the supermarket, usually have very 'busy' covers with a lot of information on them.
