LEARN A SKILL OR FURTHER DEVELOP AN EXISTING SKILL

For Genius Quest, each member of 9B will be using their HomeRoom time to develop a skill, or further develop an existing skill. This may be something that you can show how you do it (e.g. complete a magic trick), or display the product of your new skill (e.g. make your own jewellery).

This will culminate in a Genius Hour Breakfast Fair in Week 6 of Term 4, where everyone will display or present their new skill...all while being provided with food!

THE RULES

1. Everyone must participate

2. This is an individual challenge. No teams.

3. This needs to be self-driven. You will only have 10 minutes each morning to work on it, so you should be coming in, regardless of whether the second bell has gone or not yet and setting up and starting on your Genius Quest skill development, without waiting for me to come in every day and say, "Come on let's start."

4. It also needs to be something that you can easily set up and pack away quickly each time, because time is limited, so it needs to be something you can do in short bursts.

5. It can't be anything to do with school, or something you're doing for school.

6. You will be working on this every Home Room, except for Fridays, between now and the Breakfast Fair in Week 6 of Term 4.

7. Remember also to choose something that is going to be a challenge, or looks hard, or looks like it will take a decent amount of time. Don't be put off by something if it seems like it will take a lot of time, because you're going to have plenty of time to work on it anyway.

8. Some of the tutorials I've put up on the right most likely won't take you the whole time, so you might choose multiple other tutorials that will further add to them. For example, I've put up a tutorial on how to draw a hyper realistic eye. That won't take you until Week 6 next term, so maybe you also find how to draw a hyper realistic mouth, and hair, etc. and end up with one big portrait that you've drawn bit by bit, combining everything together.

The pop-up book tutorial on the right shows you how to make one page, but you could easily replace what they do with pictures of your friends and/or family and make a pop-up book as a present. You get the idea anyway.

8. Most importantly, choose something you're excited about and will look forward to doing, because that's the main point: learn something new and have fun doing it.
