YOUR TASK
Film a short 2-3 minute sequence in which a character (or characters) finds and enters through a magical doorway that transports them to a new world. Once in this new world, at least one magical effect must occur (e.g. flying, transformations, spells... whatever you can think of!). Your sequence should work as a mini-narrative: it needs a beginning, a middle and an end. Notes:

How are Magical Doorways Created?
Most filmmakers use masking techniques to create their magical doorways. This can be done in either Premiere Pro or After Effects (both tutorials provided below). Essentially, creating a mask means that you tell the software to select part of the image (the doorway) and make it transparent, thus allowing a second image (the new world) to appear through it. The good thing about masking is that it is a non-destructive method - that is, it doesn't actually cut out or delete the masked area, it simply turns it transparent. This is good because it means that you can go back and refine your mask or fix it if you have made a mistake with the shape/size.
An alternative technique would be to use green screening. This would be done by setting up a green screen on the other side of the door, so that when the door is opened there is only green on the other side. Then you would use chromakey to replace the green with the footage of your new world. If you would like to use this method, please follow the tutorials in the 'Green Screen Reporting' task.
