Makeup Effects FilmSo, now that you've seen examples of a few introductory makeup effects that can be used in film, you're going to make your own film incorporating these effects.
Your film is a group project. Groups can contain no more than 4 members. Your film MUST include 3 out of the 4 makeup effects that we looked at in class. Your film MUST include: 1) fake blood that you've created yourself 2) a fake wound of some kind (e.g. a cut, a scratch, a burn, a bullet hole, an infection, etc.) and then for the third one, your choice of either 3) a scar wax wound/mould wound or a rigid collodion scar Behind the Scenes FilmYou MUST also create a behind the scenes "Making Of" video for your final submission. This means that you should have someone filming the creation and application of the makeup effects, the filming of a number of the shots and how those shots turned out in the finished film, interviews with some cast and crew members and perhaps also a voice over telling the story of the process you went through. This can often be taken from the audio of the interviews, however, rather than needing to be a separate thing.
Watch the behind the scenes featurette for the film 1917 on the right to get an idea about how yours should be. Your "Behind the Scenes" film should also be roughly between two and five minutes. Planning Before you can go and start filming, your group has to create a storyline AND shot list.
These must be completed by each group member and uploaded to their own individual OneDrive folder before your group can film. (TIP: you will have to create a shotlist in the end of semester exam, so it's a good idea to know how to write one yourself). Your storyline should be written as a 100 word long (minimum, but can be more) creative writing story detailing what's going to happen in your film. It should also detail which 3 makeup effects you will be using from the list above and how you're going to incorporate them into your film. Your shot list is simply a list of the shots you are going to use and what's happening in that shot. It should look like this... Scene # Shot # Shot Type Action in Shot 1 1 CU John's face, looking scared 1 2 WS John turns around and starts running. You should do an extensive table like the example above for your whole film. You can download a template that will help you format it here: Download Shotlist Template Makeup Effects Film RequirementsThe rules for your film:
1. It must go for a minimum of 2 minutes, including titles and credits. 2. It must include examples of all three makeup effects listed above: the two compulsory ones (blood effect and wound) and your choice of either a scar wax wound, moulded wound or a rigid collodion scar. 2. It must be acceptable to the school values, e.g. nothing inappropriate, not putting down or making fun of anyone, any group of people, etc. 3. It must include at least five each of the following shots and angles: close-up, mid-shot, over the shoulder shot, wideshot, extreme close-up, extreme long shot, big close-up, dolly shot, pan shot, tilt shot, bird's-eye view shot, low angle, high angle, dutch angle. 4. You can't interrupt other classes when making your film. You can't ask to get other students out of their classes to be in or help with your film. You shouldn't film directly outside where classes are happening, so you don't interrupt those classes making noise. 5. You must be safe and sensible when making your film. Don't do anything that is dangerous, that could hurt someone or damage school property (fake blood is really hard to get out of carpet!) This last one is especially important for the blood effects. You definitely CAN NOT do the fake blood part of your film inside, or near a wall or window that might get the blood on it because it stains. For this reason also, don't be wearing good clothes or your school uniform when you film the blood scene. Somewhere like the middle of Krongold Oval would be a good option for filming it, or even better, somewhere outside of school...but if you DO do it outside of school, the same rules apply. Don't go destroying your parents' favourite chair and carpet with fake blood. Be responsible. |

How to submit work to the OneDrive
You each have a shared folder that I've shared with you in OneDrive. It will be named "Your First Name Your Last Name - 10MED2020"
IMPORTANT NOTE: All of your submissions for Media are via your shared folder on the OneDrive. There will be no USB or email submissions accepted. It is your responsibility to ensure you can do this before the due dates given. Unless otherwise stated, the due time for a submission is 4pm on the due date.
Coming to me on the day something is due and saying you can't upload to OneDrive will simply mean you can't submit and won't get marks for that component.
Use the steps below and practice uploading something, anything, a picture of your dog, to that folder prior to the due date to ensure you can successfully log-in, create a folder and upload to the correct OneDrive folder prior to the due dates.
This is how you do it:
You need to log-in to OneDrive for Business. Google "one drive business" and you'll find it.
You log-in using your school email address (including the word "student" after the @ sign) and your regular CLE password.)
Once in, there will be a link on the left that says "Shared With Me". Click on that.
You will then see the folder that I've shared with you labelled like I outlined above, e.g if your name is John Smith, the folder will be labelled "John Smith - 10MED 2021".
To upload, you can simply drag and drop from your Desktop onto that page.
You should create a folder that is appropriately named for each assessment task you are given. For this one, you should create a folder called "Makeup Effects Film" and upload your finished, exported film there. Your finished exported film should have a .mov, .mp4, or .avi at the end of its name. Otherwise, I won't be able to watch it...or mark it.
